Indiana Legal Services, Inc.

Who We Are

MISSION STATEMENT  Indiana Legal Services uses the law to fight poverty, empower clients, and improve access to justice. VISION STATEMENT Dignity, fairness, and equality for all people under the law. HISTORY: In the 1960’s, the St. Joseph County office began receiving federal funding. In the 1970’s, it re-incorporated as the Legal Services Program of Northern Indiana, Inc. and obtained federal monies to expand legal services to additional counties. In June, 2001, the Legal Services Program of Northern Indiana dissolved and joined a new, statewide legal services provider, Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS). Four legal services programs in Indiana merged into one program with the administrative office located in Indianapolis.

What We Do

We provide legal counsel, advice, and representation in court and administrative proceedings as resources allow, to low-income individuals who need legal help to stop abuse, both economic and physical, to overcome barriers to employment and/or self-sufficiency, and to provide them with equal access to the legal system.
